Emeritus status is an honorary title granted to retired staff or faculty members in recognition of their significant contributions and service to WNMU. It acknowledges their valuable contributions during their career, and serves as a token of gratitude for their dedication and impact on the institution.

Employee recognition is of paramount importance within any organization, as it serves as a powerful tool for enhancing motivation, engagement, and overall performance. WNMU recognizes the most important and valuable asset it has is its employees and how important it is to recognize their achievements.

Faculty Excellence Awards
WNMU faculty are eligible to earn Distinguished Faculty Awards which are overseen by Academic Affairs/Faculty Senate President and the Sabbatical Leave and Faculty Awards Committee*.

Presidential Leadership Award - Staff
The newly established Presidential Leadership Award is bestowed upon a University staff employee, selected by the President, who best represents high achievement and is recognized for their commitment to excellence to the University, Colleagues, Students and Community. Nominations open in September and winners will be announced at the Welcome Back Convocation Ceremony in January.
Service Excellence Awards - Staff
The newly established Service Excellence Award is bestowed upon University staff employees, 1 representative from each job classification, voted on by their peers, who cultivate an environment of +1 service by living our values and key engagement principles of our service excellence culture where we are Mustangs serving Mustangs
Staff Employee of the Month and Year Awards
Part of our Mission is to project a positive image of our University to our internal and external community. To this end, the Staff Senate Rewards & Recognition Committee recognizes Mustangs for their outstanding support of the University every month as Employee of the Month. Employees can nominate their colleagues each month for this award.

In addition to recognizing our Mustangs as an Employee of the Month, these recipients are also eligible for an Employee of the Year award. The Employee of the Year is selected by the Staff Senate Rewards and Recognition Committee for their outstanding achievements and is recognized during the Fall Convocation Ceremony.
Staff Senate Mustangs Together Award
The Staff Senate Rewards and Recognition Committee, of Western New Mexico University established the “Mustangs Together” award to recognize and reward the hardworking and dedicated staff of WNMU. In appreciation and gratitude toward staff throughout the university, Staff Senate will present the “Mustangs Together” award two times each month and a name will be selected through random draw. Recipients receive a prize bag delivered to their office!
